a Portland facelift
The Twenty Two
The Twenty Two is a new hotel and private members’ club that occupies the corner of Grosvenor Square and North Audley Street. The building is a grade two listed Edwardian property, the external stonework of which was badly damaged and needed restoration. The main contractor asked stoneCIRCLE to supply the stonework both externally and for the internal public areas.
The stonework was salvaged from the original building and delivered to stoneCIRCLE who surveyed it to decide what could be reinstated and/or used for the new extension which was part of the project. The company then supplied all of the new stone required in Portland Broadcroft Whitbed. This included a bottle balustrade, plinths, window surrounds, and the ashlar blocks, quoins and so on.
The original carved ocular window surrounds were scanned with a laser, and then new ones carved to match on the 5 axes CNC machine.
This was the first large scale external stonework package that stoneCIRCLE had undertaken and
both the client and the contractor were very pleased with the result.
Internally stoneCIRCLE installed travertine, granite and slate floors and stairs, and fabricated marble bar counters. The entrance steps were in Carrara marble.
