Ombra di Caravaggio in Chelsea

marble office reception desk

The reception desk’s hammered sides make a real statement, while the top has been honed for practicality

This breath-taking desk is a supremely functional work station while making a real statement about the company in whose reception area it sits in London’s chic Chelsea district.

The reception desk spans an impressive 3 metres long by 1.5 metres wide and is crafted from the exquisite Ombra di Caravaggio marble. Known for its deep, rich tones and beautiful veining, this marble was selected by the designer to reflect Chelsea's creative spirit. The desk's surface boasts a honed finish, providing a smooth, matte look, while the contrasting sides are finished with a rough, hammered texture.

The designer's choice to marry the honed top with hammered sides creates textures that capture the eye and invite touch. This duality not only highlights the natural beauty of the Ombra di Caravaggio marble but also reflects the multifaceted nature of modern business environments - professional yet inviting, sleek yet approachable.

Soft, neutral tones of furniture are juxtaposed with the marble's rich hues, creating a space that feels both expansive and intimate. Seats in muted teal and deep red shades draw out the dark, elegant veining of the marble, while the wall panels in golden oak tones introduce a sense of warmth and organic texture, ensuring the space remains welcoming.
